The Australian Indigenous Education Foundation (AIEF) was established in 2008 in response to community demand from Indigenous families who choose to enrol their children in boarding schools.

Bringing together the government and private sector, AIEF provides scholarship funding for Indigenous students to complete Year 12 or tertiary studies, with career support to help them make a successful transition to further study and employment.

About the role

Reporting to the General Manager – Advancement and joining a small, high-performing team within the wider Engagement portfolio, the Coordinator – Advancement (Major Gifts) will focus on securing philanthropic gifts from individuals and organisations.

You will:

  • Identify, qualify and cultivate prospective donors and solicit major gifts for AIEF.
  • Create and maintain entries and engagement points in AIEF’s CRM, following procedures to ensure data quality and integrity is maintained.
  • Manage a portfolio of 50-100 major donors, tracking their giving history, interests, and communication preferences.
  • Lead the maintenance and growth of the AIEF Nation Changers Syndicate program and related giving vehicles.
  • Assist in the maintenance and growth of other Advancement portfolios, including Bequests, Trusts and Foundations, and Appeals.

You will also serve as a mentor and leader within the Advancement Team, advising junior team members and helping them to develop their skills in fundraising and engagement.

Who are we looking for?

The ideal candidate for this role will possess a proven record of success in fundraising and philanthropy within the not-for-profit sector, with significant experience in obtaining major gifts and private funding. You have prior knowledge of development principles, techniques, and best practice in mid-level and major gift solicitation and stewardship. You also excel at building and maintaining strong relationships with donors, sponsors, and stakeholders, providing professional and personalised service to ensure a positive experience at every touchpoint.

In addition, we are looking for:

  • Documented experience of securing major gifts, sales or accounts from a donor or customer constituency.
  • A relevant qualification and three to five year’s work experience in relevant roles.
  • Exemplary interpersonal skills, with a focus on strong relationship management and comfort in engaging donors and stakeholders from a range of backgrounds and beliefs.
  • Excellent writing skills, with an emphasis on proposals and pitches to secure donations, and a high level of attention to detail.
  • A resilient and proactive approach to delivering a high level of support to donors and prospective donors within a complex and dynamic organisational environment.
  • Fundraising experience within small to medium sized organisations is highly desirable.
