The Traineeship Program Coordinator (50D) plays a pivotal role in the Indigenous Health Workforce Traineeship (IHWT) Program, supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander trainees throughout their vocational journey.

This position involves:

  • Identifying, assessing, and recruiting suitable trainees with the right background and attributes for traineeship opportunities.
  • Collaborating with trainees, host employers, and Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) to ensure successful completion of traineeships.
  • Providing ongoing support and mentorship to trainees, fostering their professional development.
  • Promoting the program and engaging with stakeholder to build and maintain strong networks.
  • Managing program documentation, compliance reporting, and ensuring adherence to program guidelines.

About You

Aboriginality is an essential criterion and is provided for under Section 50(d) of the Equal Opportunity Act 1984 (WA).

We’re looking for someone with the following skills and experience:

  • Background in program coordination, recruitment, human resources, learning and development, or a related field.
  • Strong attention to detail, time management, and organisational abilities.
  • Understanding of the vocational education and training sector and the frameworks of qualifications delivered by RTOs.
  • Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to uphold the principles of cultural safety, including communicating sensitively and effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Ideally, in addition to the above, we are looking for someone who has experience working in Aboriginal health, and has an understanding of the challenges and issues, including social determinants, that affect Aboriginal people's health in contemporary Australian society.

Please note: In addition to the above skills and experience, the successful candidate will require an unrestricted WA “C” Class Driver’s Licence, and be required to submit a National Police Clearance (dated within 3 months) prior to appointment. Applicants for this position must be legally entitled to work in Australia and will be required to provide evidence of this entitlement, such as an Australian birth certificate.
