The Sexual Health and Blood Borne Virus Program Coordinator is primarily responsible for providing expert sexual health and blood borne virus advice and support to Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Services (ACCHS) (Member Services) across Western Australia, with the aim of decreasing the incidence of STIs in Aboriginal peoples.

This role is responsible for the coordination, planning, development, implementation and evaluation of collaborative activities associated with the Sexual Health, Blood Borne Viruses and Hepatitis C programs and assists in the development and delivery of professional development programs to AHCWA’s Member Services.

Additionally, this position plays a crucial leadership role, coordinating a team of two, while building and maintaining strong relationships with key external stakeholders.

About You

We’re looking for a passionate advocate and skilled leader with:

• Knowledge of the current trends and issues affecting the health and wellbeing of Aboriginal communities throughout the state;
• Proven experience in promoting Aboriginal health advocacy in relation to STIs and BBVs;
• A leadership style that develops, coaches and empowers employees to achieve the best possible outcomes of client and clinical service delivery;
• Proven experience in planning, implementing and evaluating public health programs, education and training for diverse audiences;
• Strong analytical and problem solving skills with the ability to develop strategies to resolve issues effectively; and
• Demonstrated knowledge and application of clinical quality improvement practices in primary health care, specifically in sexual health and blood borne viruses.

Ideally, in addition to be above, we are looking for someone who:

• Identifies as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander and is acknowledged as such by their community;
• Possesses a relevant clinical qualification i.e. Aboriginal Health Worker / Aboriginal Health Practitioner or Registered Nurse; and
• Holds relevant clinical knowledge, skills and a minimum 5 years' experience within the sexual health field.

The position involves working within a multicultural organisation where the majority of employees, clients and stakeholders identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander.

Candidates must be able to demonstrate an understanding of the issues affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and their ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

Please note: In addition to the above skills and experience, the successful candidate will require an unrestricted WA “C” Class Driver’s Licence, and be required to submit a National Police Clearance (dated within 3 months) and Working with Children Check prior to appointment.
