  • Salary: $113,794 - $122,255 per annum.

Anyinginyi Health Aboriginal Corporation is a multi-disciplinary organisation which provides primary health care services to the Aboriginal people of Tennant Creek and the surrounding Barkly region, dedicated to ‘Closing the Gap’ in Aboriginal health within remote Australia.

Anyinginyi Health consists of several different sections (Health Services, Public Health Unit, and Piliyintinji-Ki Stronger Families, Businss Services, Corporate Governance and Peopel & Capability) which allow them to have a holistic approach to health ensuring that clients' physical and emotional health and wellbeing is given the utmost priority.

About the Role

The Regional Eye Health Coordinator will facilitate the Eye Health program activities in the Barkly region of the Northern Territory and to consolidate the system of eye health service delivery in the region.  

More specifically, some of your duties will include (but will not be limited to):

  • Perform preliminary eye exams and tests such as visual acuity, Intra-Ocular Pressure measurements and diagnostic testing using imaging equipment (training will be provided)
  • Enhance links with regional stakeholders including regional community clinics, hospitals, ophthalmologist, Brien Holden Vision Institute, Fred Hollows Central Australia & Barkly Integrated Eye Heath Strategy (CABIEHS)
  • In conjunction with current service providers and clinics, investigate and assess eye health needs in the communities within the Barkly region.
  • Maintain a schedule of regular ophthalmologist and optometrist visits to clinics in the region.
  • Coordinate both optometrist and ophthalmologist clinics by ensuring the communities are informed of visiting specialists on time and that transport is made available to transport patients to appointments and home.
  • Work as part of the clinical team to undertake a wide range of nursing duties including (but not limited to) general patient assessment, health checks, specimen collection, provision of wound care and chronic disease management.
  • Conduct education to inform and update the clinical team.
  • Provide regular reports to meet funding obligations.
  • Provide support, counselling and education services to clients prior to examination
  • Maximise all opportunities for Medicare billing
  • Ensure all Medicare billing is consistent with laws governing Medicare.
  • Visit remote communities as required and as negotiated with the Clinical Services Manager or anyone acting in their capacity. 

About you 

To be considered for this position, you must be a Registered Nurse with current AHPRA Registration and acquire clinical skills and experience needed to work competently in remote areas, with demonstrated experience in Eye Health Management

Experience working with an Aboriginal organisation or communities will be highly regarded but is not essential, provided you are able to demonstrate a clear understanding of the issues pertaining to Aboriginal Primary Health Care and the social determinants of health in our surrounding communities. 

An exceptional communicator with outstanding interpersonal skills needed to tailor your approach to the needs of each family and possess the ability to identify their strengths and build effective relationships with our clients.
