We are seeking an experienced Marketing Manager to join the team behind the established online magazines Aeon and Psyche and the newly launched international events program, the Sophia Club.
We are looking for someone with a strong digital marketing background and a demonstrated record of success in growing online audiences and income to join Aeon Media as we enter an exciting developmental period.
Aeon and Psyche are entirely free to access and reach a large international audience of 1.5 million uniques/month. The Sophia Club launched in early 2022 with live events in Melbourne, New York and London.
More than half our readership and donor base is US based. We are funded by a reader donation program, gifts, grants and syndications. We are endorsed as a deductible gift recipient (DGR) organisation in Australia and, through our affiliate Aeon America, registered as a 501(c)(3) charity in the United States.
We are head-quartered in a beautiful warehouse office in Melbourne CBD and have smaller teams in London and New York.
The role
The Digital Marketing Manager works closely with the Directors to develop and to grow audience numbers and income across our platforms and channels. The role reports to the Chief Operating Officer and manages the Social Media Coordinator, the Newsletter Coordinator, and works closely with the Sophia Club Manager. The role works directly with the Tech team and acts as an important champion for reader and donor experience, data tracking and reporting.
Responsibilities
- Manage the reader and donor lifecycle from acquisition to retention with a focus on growth
- Grow reader income, focusing on organic campaigns through our own digital channels
- Oversee newsletter and social media accounts for Aeon, Psyche and the Sophia Club and drive continuous improvement and growth
- Manage data tracking and reporting to ensure we are data informed and responsive. Deliver timely reports that inform the Directors on trends; track performance against strategies; and provide editorial insights for the Editorial Director
- Working with the Tech team, manage the Google strategy to increase search rankings and quality traffic via SEO and other tactics
- Working with the Tech team, make recommendations for ways to continuously improve user experience, leading to increased conversions and other key deliverables such as time on site and article sharing, etc
- Manage magazine syndications strategy to grow income
- Manage communications contra partnerships and promotion swaps, across newsletter, social and potentially podcast products
- Keep abreast of best practices in digital marketing and advise Directors accordingly
Skills and experience
- A demonstrated record of success in growing online audiences and income in a mid-level (or higher) marketing role
- Hands-on experience managing website, social media and email campaigns
- Expertise with Google Analytics, Data Studio, and tracking, analysing and reporting on data
- Demonstrated project/campaign planning and management skills
- SEO, user experience and performance marketing knowledge
- Demonstrated past experience working closely with a Tech team to deliver marketing objectives
- Knowledge of digital and e-commerce trends pertinent to driving digital audience growth and engagement
- Strong writing skills
- Excellent judgment and interpersonal skills
- Experience in media, charity, education or creative sectors valued but not essential
- Relevant degree-level tertiary qualifications in marketing, business, commerce or a related discipline
