About AEGN

The Australian Environmental Grantmakers Network (AEGN) is a member organisation that aims to harness the power of philanthropy to help protect our environment, act on climate change, and build a sustainable future. Our mission is to grow effective funding for the environment and climate change. 

The AEGN works with philanthropic funders who want to become more effective in their environmental giving. The AEGN is a trusted place where members learn and share, are inspired and informed, and come together to fund some of the greatest challenges of our times. Above all, our members discover that far more can be achieved through working together than by acting alone.

About the role

There is a small group of Environmental Program Coordinators who support critical areas of the AEGN’s work program - growing the scale and impact of environmental and climate philanthropy.

This group arrangement means that over time you will have the opportunity to work across a range of key areas (Climate, Nature, Indigenous Land & Sea Management, Sustainable Food Systems, etc).

Responsibilities include:

  • Supporting the events program
    • Researching event topics
    • Developing communication
    • Attending and supporting delivery
    • Post-event follow-up activities
  • Coordinating, monitoring, tracking and reporting on projects
  • Coordinating, note-taking/keeping, researching, and developing content for funder group meetings
  • Writing content for publication on the website and in member resources
  • Collecting, entering, and analysing CRM data
  • Assisting members with inquiries, escalating as needed

About You

You are passionate about the environment. You collaborate for success and love being part of a team. You have some good experience in the environment or climate sector and are looking to build a career in this space, so are keen to support an experienced team across a range of activities to build your capability. You are organised, self-directed and professional in your approach and your interactions are delivered with a strong sense of customer/member service.

  • Quick learner - you ask the right questions to be able to understand new processes and ideas quickly
  • Excellent communicator – you can communicate verbally and in writing with a confident and compelling message to a wide range of stakeholders, staff, members, etc
  • Organised – you get things done on time, balance conflicting priorities and manage workflow, and communicate your progress clearly
  • Professional – you can interact with members and staff professionally, promptly respond to requests, and are reliable, punctual, and proactive
  • Flexible - you are happy to work on all types of work and can muck in as needed to ensure the team achieves its goals
  • Initiative & Self-Managed – You take ownership of the goals of a project, anticipate problems, and act to resolve them without being asked, seeking input and support where required

Requirements

  • 2+ years working in the environment (experience in climate change, environment charitable sector, philanthropy an advantage)
  • Relevant degree qualification
  • Good writing skills with experience writing communication pieces for various audiences
  • Strong attention to detail and proofing skills
  • Strong digital capability including - Zoom, collaboration tools, CRMs
  • Experience organising online and face to face events preferred
  • Right to work in Australia

Selection Criteria 

  1. Strong knowledge of environmental/climate change issues faced in the Australian context. Knowledge of not-for-profit or philanthropy is an advantage.
  2. Ability to work collaboratively and in small teams demonstrating flexibility and a positive demeanour.
  3. Ability to organise and plan own work across multiple tasks and tight deadlines, to deliver quality outcomes on time.
  4. Ability to research and prepare written communication pieces for a variety of audiences and channels.
  5. Strong self-awareness and ability to build effective working relationships across a range of people and contexts.
