Baker Heart and Diabetes Institute is an independent, internationally renowned medical research facility. Our work extends from the laboratory to wide-scale community studies with a focus on diagnosis, prevention and treatment of diabetes and cardiovascular disease.

About the Role

The Manager, Philanthropic Relations will manage a caseload of high-net-worth individuals. The role will develop and implement individualised relationship strategies to achieve annual financial targets. Solid experience in the field of major gift fundraising or high-level sales is a requirement. This role will focus on relationship-based fundraising and strategies but is also an integral part of the Institute’s major gift program.

Key Duties

In this role you will be expected to:

  • In conjunction with line manager, set and achieve financial targets in excess of $2m annually.
  • In conjunction with campaign team, achieve extraordinary capacity campaign gifts from annual giving donors.
  • Develop and implement individualised major gift strategies for agreed caseload of up to 150 donors, including the moves management stages of identification, cultivation, asking and stewarding donors.
  • Identify and develop cases for support to present to donors.
  • Ensure appropriate and accurate donor recognition.
  • Implement major donor cultivation and stewardship activities including private tours, boardroom meetings, functions and donor reports.
  • Contribute to a strategic major gift program including moves management protocols and processes; cultivation and stewardship strategy, financial and non-financial performance reports.
  • Participate in developing and improving highly effective communication and fundraising strategies across the CCR team.
  • Proactive attendance at team meetings, relevant seminars and staff meetings.

Skills and Experience

You will have:

  • Postgraduate qualifications with relevant experience, or major gift fundraising experience and proven management expertise; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
  • Experience in achieving revenue targets, strategic relationship moves in management, liaising with a range of stakeholders, developing proposals, managing committees and coordinating events.
  • Review major gift policies, objectives and strategies involving high level liaison with internal and external client areas.
  • Be responsible for programs involving major change which may impact on other areas of the institute's operations.
  • A high level of interpersonal skills, which enable the appointee to liaise effectively with a wide range of people at a variety of levels internal and external to the Baker Institute.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of strategic relationship fundraising, in particular major gift strategy implementation.
