The Australian Community Workers Association (ACWA) works for the benefit of the community by ensuring community workers are well qualified and skilled to provide services that help bring about a fair and just Australia. Its purpose, supported by members, is to ensure that community work is widely recognised as a profession, and that practitioners have the requisite qualifications, skills, ethics and knowledge needed to play a proactive role in bringing about a fair and just society. ACWA’s four key service areas are membership, migration skills assessments, course accreditation and training endorsement.

The office is based in the Melbourne CBD.

ABOUT THE ROLE

As an Assessment Officer you will work with other team members to ensure the efficient operation of the course accreditation program. The position will involve the assessment of course accreditation applications and subsequent monitoring of these courses to ensure they meet the established criteria and standards. The position will also support the delivery of the membership services program. 

In your role you will need:

  • A tertiary qualification in community services, human services, social work or similar (preferred)
  • A good knowledge of and experience in the community sector
  • An understanding of the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF)
  • Good time management skills
  • An ability to prioritise workloads
  • To enjoy working in a small team.

DESCRIPTION POSITION

  • Hours: Full time / Part time options considered
  • Term: 12 months fixed term (with the possibility of extension)
  • Salary package based on experience
  • Location: Level 2, 190 Queen Street, Melbourne VIC 3000 (with flexible work from home arrangements)
  • Reports: Manager of Membership Services

Position summary

ACWA is the national body that exists to support community work professionals. As such it sets standards for the education and professional practice of community workers.  

In this role, you will be responsible for:

  • conducting assessments in compliance with required specifications and guidelines.
  • working with management to identify and effect change and improvement of related processes.

Position responsibilities:

  • Review and evaluate course accreditation applications to ensure they meet the established criteria and standards
  • Collaborate with team members to ensure the smooth and efficient operation of the course accreditation program
  • Conducting membership eligibility assessments against ACWA Membership Eligibility/Skills Assessment Guidelines
  • Maintaining and updating applicant records
  • Supporting ongoing development of member services
  • Engaging in the continuous improvement of the day-to-day functioning of ACWA’s quality management system
  • Contributing to the periodic review of guidelines and service provision
  • Liaising with external stakeholders such as education providers, government departments, and employers
  • Working collaboratively with the assessment team/s.

Key selection criteria

  • (Preferred) hold a higher education qualification in community services, human services, social work or similar;
  • (Preferred) have experience and knowledge of the community services sector;
  • have experience in using and maintaining CRM’s;
  • have a demonstrable understanding of the Australian VET and higher education sectors and the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF);
  • be self-motivated, able to manage their time, prioritise workloads, problem solve, seek support; and
  • have a successful track record of working within a team-based environment oriented to achieving organisational objectives and policies;
  • excellent verbal, including telephone, and written communication skills;
  • advanced computer skills.
