About Us

The Australian Council of Trade Unions (ACTU) represents nearly 1.7 million workers and their families. Since 1927, we have led some of the most significant workplace struggles in Australia's history. The ACTU’s role as a peak body is to encourage workers to join their union, be a national voice for our movement, and advance and defend workers' rights through coordinated campaigns, representation at various forums, and providing industrial, policy, and other support to our affiliates.

The Role

As the Gender Equality Project Officer, you will be instrumental in the Advancing Gender Equality in Gender Segregated Industries grant initiative. You will provide national facilitation and support six Trades and Labour Councils (TLCs), each with their own funded project.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Engagement and Support: Collaborate with TLCs, offering expert technical support, convening regular forums for information sharing, and assisting with evaluation and data analysis.
  • Resource Management: Build and maintain a national online repository of key project materials for shared access by TLCs and affiliates.
  • Collaboration and Partnerships: Engage with peak employer bodies, national government agencies, affiliate unions, and civil society organisations to facilitate collaboration, reduce duplication, and advocate for the program.
  • Evaluation and Advocacy: Synthesize results from individual TLC projects to demonstrate positive impacts.
  • Representation: Represent the ACTU at various forums, meetings, conferences, and seminars.
  • Travel: Occasional domestic travel to support TLC projects.

Key Selection Criteria

  • Communication Skills: Excellent research, written, and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare reports, submissions, and deliver presentations to diverse audiences.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Proven ability to engage effectively with various stakeholders.
  • Knowledge and Experience: Demonstrated knowledge or experience in gender equality policy, bargaining, or law reform initiatives. Experience working with or in the Australian Trade Union movement.
  • Union Values: A strong commitment to union values and principles.

Benefits

The ACTU offers a competitive salary range of $114,900-$134,230 (pro rata), depending on skills and experience, along with:

  • Additional 15% superannuation
