ActionAid Australia is seeking a dynamic Campaigns Specialist to join its Campaigns and Policy team to help shape and implement campaign strategies focused on shifting government policy and corporate practice to advance women’s rights globally.

The role aims to deliver impact around our global justice campaigns, with a focus on climate justice for women, and to build an active and engaged supporter base. A core part of this role is developing and implementing digital mobilisation and an engagement strategy.

The organisation

ActionAid Australia is part of a federation working in 45 countries to advance women’s rights and end poverty and injustice. It supports women on the frontlines of injustice overseas and campaigns in Australia to advance climate and economic justice for women, working to shift government policy and corporate practice that undermine the rights of people living in poverty.

This role is to be based preferably in Sydney (Melbourne considered). ActionAid Australia’s main office is based in Wynyard, Sydney, a five-minute walk from the station and staff work in a hybrid environment with a minimum of 2 collaborative days in the office weekly.

Key roles and responsibilities

Campaign Strategy and Implementation:

  • Contribute to the development of campaign strategy across ActionAid’s campaigns
  • Implement and take ownership of strands of campaign strategies, with a particular focus on digital and activist mobilisation, including advocacy with targets, investor engagement, partnerships, social media etc.
  • Coordinate partner relationships
  • Engage in evaluating and evolving strategies to maximise impact with the broader team

Digital Strategy and Communications:

  • Work across teams to develop and implement a plan to grow and maintain an active and engaged community of online supporters using innovative tactics
  • Drive rapid mobilisation solidarity actions via digital platforms to build movement
  • Drive supporter acquisition and reactivation strategies
  • Plan and produce high-quality content to engage supporters across ActionAid’s digital channels
  • Work with ActionAid offices to collect engaging content
  • Develop and track key metrics to improve performance

Activist Mobilisation and Support:

  • Work with ActionAid’s Activist Network to promote campaigns and related events, and to scale our outreach and impact
  • Build capacity of activists to deploy digital mobilisation strategies

Other:

  • Conduct basic research for campaign strategy development
  • Work as a member of a team
  • Other duties as delegated

As the ideal candidate for the role, you need

  • A strong commitment to ActionAid’s mission, vision and values, including feminist leadership
  • A commitment to diversity and experience working with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures
  • At least two to three years of experience with campaigning, including involvement in development of campaign strategy
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, computer literacy skills including the ability to produce creative and engaging content with digital tools to mobilise people to take action
  • Experience using a campaign database like Campaign Monitor, ActionNetwork, or NationBuilder (we use Campaign Monitor) and using data to analyse and test various tactics and strategies
  • Strong project management skills
  • Demonstrated ability to manage pressure and competing priorities
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to work as part of a team and with other stakeholders like partners and volunteers
  • A high degree of initiative and self-drive
  • The ability to travel overseas if required

DESIRABLE

  • Tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline
  • Corporate campaigning experience
