- We’re on the lookout for an enthusiastic individual to join our Greater Western Sydney (GWS) team to support community development and health promotion for LGBTQ+ communities out west.
- This role is a chance for you to help shape inclusive, innovative health promotion for LGBTQ+ communities in GWS.
- Full-time role (70 hours per fortnight), based in our Gadigal (Surry Hills) office, with the option to work up to 50% of your time from home.
What’s Greater Western Sydney you say?
You'll be a part of the GWS team, which is a highly focused team, devoted to promoting the health and wellbeing of LGBTQ+ communities in GWS, particularly those from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander, multicultural, migrant and refugee backgrounds. Through community engagement and social media, this team develops the personal skills and knowledge within these communities to empower them to make informed decisions about HIV and their broader sexual and general health.
Ok, so what’s the role?
The Community Health Promotion Officer, Greater Western Sydney role is essentially responsible for the development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of sexual health promotion and peer-based programs and initiatives for LGBTQ+ people and communities located in Greater Western Sydney. You will:
- Create tailored services and programs that address the sexual health needs of the LGBTQ+ communities of GWS.
- Design, plan, deliver, and evaluate health promotion activities such as workshops, outreach events, forums and online initiatives.
- Train and support a team of passionate volunteers to deliver ACON’s health initiatives.
Who are we looking for?
We're looking for someone with:
- Demonstrated understanding of the specific HIV, sexual health and broader health needs of LGBTQ+ people and their communities in GWS, including of gay, bi+, and queer men who have sex with men (trans and cis) and people living with HIV.
- Thorough understanding of, and/or experience working with, the specific health and support needs of LGBTQ+ people from multicultural, migrant and refugee backgrounds and people of colour in GWS (including lived experience where relevant).
- Experience in project design, delivery and evaluation focused on achieving clear outcomes.
- Experience in peer-group facilitation, training and/or public speaking.
This program is grounded in a peer-led model that values community knowledge, lived experience and cultural connection.

What else can we tell you?āāā
- Salary: $84,192.91 starting Gross Annual Salary (PLUS Superannuation and Leave Loading).
- Location: ACON’s Gadigal (Surry Hills) office, with the option to work up to 50% of your time from home.
- Hours: Full-Time (70 hours per fortnight) on an ongoing contract.
- Salary Packaging up to $35,000 gross up value (i.e., currently up to $15,900 Expenses + $2,650 Meals, tax free).
- Generous pro-rata leave entitlements – including up to an extra week of paid leave for full time employees to be taken during our Christmas and New Year’s shutdown period.
