Position Objective

To provide specialist psychological/intervention services to clients supported by AC in either foster care, residential and disabilities programs and to AC staff, management, client’s families, carers and service systems that support them.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

In collaboration with the Clinical Director;

  • Maintain the highest of professional ethical standards that meet and/or exceed standards set forth by the Australian Psychological Society, Comply with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency’s Code of Conduct and Health Practitioner Regulation National Law (NSW) No 86a and other relevant governmental agencies
  • Work in positive collaboration with the Clinical Director, AC colleagues and outside agencies to promote quality clinical service delivery to all stakeholders
  • Accurately maintain psychological records on all clients and ensure the highest levels of confidentiality of these files are maintained
  • Plan, design, review and implement a full range of behaviour support plans based on the individual needs of clients as required by referral agencies
  • Conduct psychological assessments on identified clients as directed by the Clinical Director, Clinical Services
  • Participate in designated managerial meetings/sessions as requested by the Clinical Director or Lead Psychologists
  • Develop and provide reports on all psychological assessments and behavioural intervention plans
  • Conduct intake assessments on all clients placed with AC according to identified procedures
  • Identify, monitor and assist in the allocation of resources to intervention implementation programs
  • Remain current on all referral agencies policies and procedures regarding client need and protection while in AC care
  • Implement all appropriate practices to ensure the overall psychological safety and welfare of clients
  • Participate in debriefing and planning sessions with the Clinical Director as scheduled
  • Investigate, assess, resolve, negotiate actions and present objective recommendations where competing views and interests lead to significant conflict within client families, staff and other service providers
  • Utilise research-based and data-driven practices in the provision of all services to clients
  • Provide consultancy to identified persons or groups as requested by the Clinical Director
  • Complete all tasks in a timely manner
  • Provide individual and group counselling to identified clients
  • Immediately reports all concerns to the Clinical Director
  • Work in professional collaboration with AC psychological and psychiatric consultants
  • Provide other duties and responsibilities as requested.

Provisional Psychologist Requirements

  • Work within the relevant legislation and guidelines; and Allambi Care Policies and Procedures
  • Uphold key core responsibilities related to administrative, confidentiality, consent, clients who are a danger to themselves/others, difficult situations, dual relationships, and professional self-care
  • Collaborate with AC Clinical Director, Internship Supervisor(s) and other professionals in the provision of comprehensive services to clients
  • Collaborate with the Clinical Services Team in reviewing individual client needs
  • Participate in weekly restricted Practices Review meetings
  • Successful completion of required coursework for applied behaviour analysis
  • Complete all tasks under the direct supervision of Clinical Services Manager/Lead Psychologists
  • Complete monthly supervision with AC Clinical Director.

Internships Requirements

  • Develop and demonstrate proficiency in the following core capabilities: knowledge of the discipline, psychological assessment and measurement, intervention strategies, communication and interpersonal relationships, research and evaluation, ethics, legal and professional matters, working within a cross-cultural context, practice across the lifespan
  • Minimum 2 year program based on a 35 hour week and 7 hour day; a minimum of 3080 hours
  • A minimum of 17.5 hours per week internship
  • A maximum 8 week provision for annual and personal leave per year
  • One on one supervision with a board approved supervisor at a ratio of 1 hour of supervision to 17.5 hours of supervised practice. Two-thirds must be individual supervision. Secondary supervision cannot contribute to more than 25% of the provisional psychologist’s total supervision.
  • A minimum of 60 hours of professional development per full-time year designed to meet the eight competencies of the internship program.
  • Prepare with a board approved supervisor a supervised practice program in accordance with the guidelines.
  • Ensure that at least 6 interventions case studies are completed and reviewed by the principal supervisor and at least 3 of these are submitted to the board.
  • Timely maintenance of log books countersigned by supervisor
  • Submit supervised practice support every 6 months
  • Prepare for the National Psychology Examination before the end of the internship
  • Following instructions by the supervisor as closely as possible, especially those relating to the care of clients and written material concerning clients.

Minimum requirements

  • Tertiary qualifications in Psychology or a related field and;
  • One year experience in the community services industry or a related field

Must have these documents if successful

  • Current Working with Children Check (for paid employment)
  • Current NDIS Worker Check
  • Current First Aid Certificate (Provide First Aid; Course Code HLTAID003)
  • National Police Check (must be obtained via www.employmentscreeninggroup.com/au/allambi/)
  • International Police Check for applicants who have lived continuously for 12 months or more in another country within the last 10 years.
  • A current driver’s licence
  • Certificate of Completion: NDIS Worker Orientation Module (click here to access)
  • Willingness to participate in pre-employment medical checks
  • Two professional references 
  • Willingness to participate in a Disqualified Carer’s Check
