To support growing communications needs, Karlka Nyiyaparli Aboriginal Corporation (KNAC) is seeking a dedicated Media & Communications Officer to join our team in South Hedland. You’ll play an important role in sharing stories, designing content, and supporting engagement that makes a real impact across the Nyiyaparlicommunity.

About Us

Karlka Nyiyaparli Aboriginal Corporation RNTBC (KNAC) is the registered native title body corporate for the Nyiyaparli People with approximately 400 current members. 

The Nyiyaparli People are the Traditional Owners of approximately 36,684 square kilometres of land and waters in the East Pilbara region, including the Aboriginal communities of Jigalong and Parpajinya, several pastoral leases and significant mining operations. Locations with the Determination Area are places of particular significance to the Nyiyaparli people, including ceremonial sites, songlines, permanent pools and natural resources. 

Position Purpose

The Media and Communications Officer will work closely with the Media and Communications Manager (MCM) to provide high level information and quality publications to the Nyiyaparli community, KNAC staff and stakeholders. The KNAC Communications Strategic Plan (available on our website) is a key document that underpins the purpose and vision of the Media and Communications team, and working in alignment with its principles is fundamental.

Your New Role

The key responsibilities of this role include: 

  • Provide high-level creative and administrative support to the MCM.
  • Coordinating the uploading of regular website content, ensuring functioning web administration, as well as undertaking significant design updates as and when requested.
  • Assist the MCM with the timely collation of content and assist in the design and development of major publications and undertake minor publication design and publication as requested.
  • Liaise with the various teams within the Corporation to develop community stories for distribution.
  • Design content in various forms across various platforms as requested by MCM or CEO.
  • Support MCM to ensure corporate branding is visible, recognisable and consistent including developing relevant design components and coordinating any associated administrative tasks.
  • Complete record keeping and file management in accordance with KNAC policies and procedures

What You'll Bring

Essential experience and qualifications include:

  • Demonstrated experience using WordPress and Elementor in website development and management
  • Experience in working with a variety of design tools including Adobe InDesign and Illustrator.
  • Ability to create photography, videography and AV content for use across multiple channels.
  • Qualifications or significant relevant experience in design and content development.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills
  • High level of capability in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • Strong problem-solving, initiative and multitasking abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • National Police Check.
  • Current Drivers Licence.
