Burrun Dalai is a not-for-profit Aboriginal community-controlled organisation providing support to Aboriginal children and young people, their birth families and foster families.
Burrun Dalai's vision is to maintain Aboriginal family values. Ensuring this objective has traditionally involved the extended family members and community members in the care and development of children.
With a turnover of approximately $25 million per annum, we provide foster/out of home care placements for a growing number of Aboriginal children & young people from the Nambucca, Macleay, Manning, Armidale & Tamworth regions with a focus on restoration if possible. We also provide early intervention and preservation, as well as support for care leavers, youth work and community work.

Reporting to the Board of Directors you will be a leader in the delivery of Burrun Dalai’s Programs at both the governance, strategic and operational level.
You will be accountable for the provision of high-quality services within our funding guidelines and the effective overall management of Burrun Dalai within the framework set by the Board of Directors.
You will also ensure Burrun Dalai is considered an industry leader and best practice agency in relation to Aboriginal issues in Out of Home Care, Family Preservation & Restoration, Youth Work and Specialist Aftercare Services and develop networks of people and services to assist Aboriginal children, young people and families access services.
The role can be based in Kempsey, Taree or Tamworth in NSW with regular travel required.
To thrive in this role, you will be an experienced Chief Executive Officer or ready aspirant with a strong and comprehensive depth of knowledge and/or relevant tertiary qualifications in a large Out of Home Care service provider.
You will also need comprehensive working knowledge of issues involving Closing the Gap, Aboriginal Transition, Out of Home Care for Aboriginal children and young people, families, communities and foster carers and the unique difficulties/issues that arise for Aboriginal children, young people, their families and foster carers. The successful applicant will also be required to obtain a clear National Police Check and NSW Working with Children clearance prior to commencement.
