An exciting opportunity has become available to work for Barnardos, one of Australia’s leading children’s charities. A part time (28 hours), permanent Youth & Family Support Worker is required for the Youth & Family Support Program based in Cooma, NSW. This position also has frequent travel to Jindabyne & Bombala.

The Role

Reporting to the Program Manager, the Youth & Family Support Worker works with young people 12 to under 18 years or families with young people in this age range. The young people are experiencing vulnerabilities that, if not addressed, are or have the potential to adversely impact on their health, safety or well-being, or if parents their capacity to adequately protect and care for the young person. The young people may also be experiencing low to medium risk issues that if not addressed may escalate to the point where more intensive services are needed, or risk of significant harm is identified. This includes risk of homelessness. This position requires significant travel across a large rural region.

The Candidate

The ideal Youth & Family Support Worker will have:

• A relevant qualification in community development, youth work, mental health, drug and alcohol, social work, psychology, education, early childhood specialist and/or related behavioural sciences at a minimum certificate 4, diploma or degree level
• Knowledge of child/youth development and parenting
• Demonstrated experience of working with young people at risk and their families
• Demonstrated experience of collaborating and working with other agencies to deliver services to young people and/or families
• Demonstrated ability to work independently while still being part of a team
• Highly developed written and oral communication skills, including a high level of computer literacy
• A flexible approach and demonstrated coping strategies in response to stress and distress in others

Salary: (Base & Superannuation)

$59,314 to $72,913 pro rata base (including FBT packaging) + benefits + Super. Motor Vehicle packaging is optional.

Additional information

To be considered for roles with Barnardos you will need to have (or be willing to have conducted) a National Police Clearance, current Working with Children check Clearance (or APP number) and for the ACT a Drivers History Check, Working with Vulnerable People Card and CYPS Check
