The Role

The role in the Defence Helpline supports individuals and families with a broad range of issues. The role provides crisis intervention and risk assessment via telephone and then triage to a DCO office close to the caller. You will be supporting member's access grants and education funding as well as supporting them during their rotations around the country and overseas. Being a support and a point of contact is the main purpose of this role. The role involves a lot of reporting and recommendations. It can be a challenging role, but one that is rewarding. The team consists of experienced, degree qualified individuals with a range of experience in the welfare sector.

The Candidate

In order to be considered for this role you will be required to have a Degree qualification in Social Work, Psychology or Counselling. It is important to have demonstrated crisis intervention and risk assessment skills, excellent communication skills (written and oral) and demonstrated report writing skills. If you have worked in the mental health sector or the children and family sector that would be advantageous.

The role is available immediately and it is essential you are an Australian Citizen.

Additional info

The Helpline has been running for nearly 5 years and has a steady flow of callers each day. It is a 24/7 service with 2 rostered shifts (7am-3pm & 2pm-10pm), there is also a restricted duties phone that is taken home to cover the night shift. This role is for 12 months to begin with. The successful candidate will be required to complete this contract (subject to performance). You will receive supervision from management and you will also be given 2 weeks induction.
