Who Are We?

Abbott Native Title Trustees (ANTT), is a commercial business and has been operating as a trustee for Native Title trusts since 2001. Since then, it has grown to include trustee roles across Western Australia including the Pilbara, Goldfields and Kimberley regions.

Through Paperbark Corporation Services we also provide a range of services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander companies (ASIC) and corporations (ORIC).

The Role

Working as part of our Compliance Team you will be providing comprehensive high level logistical and business support services in a culturally sensitive manner to beneficiaries accessing funding programs from their Native Title Trusts from our Perth office. Periodic travel to regional WA to attend meetings will be required.

As the Compliance Officer your key accountabilities will include:

Trust Compliance

  • Identification and interpretation of requirements within deeds and constitutions
  • Management and maintenance of Trusts’ compliance registers in line with Trust Deeds and relevant legislation
  • Ensure Trust Databases are maintained and compliant
  • Lodgment of reporting with external agencies
  • Support management of Trusts in line with the objects and purposes of each Trust

Meetings

  • Preparation and dissemination of meeting notices, agendas and meeting papers
  • Drafting and finalisation of minutes
  • Research and collect information/data for meetings
  • Maintain meeting outcomes action list/register
  • Maintenance of Trust resolution register

Heritage Surveys and Proponent Meetings

  • Responsible for heritage management and the organisation of Heritage Surveys and Mining Company Monitoring and Liaison meetings

Documentation and Information

  • Maintain electronic and manual files and documents, keeping records up to date, secure and accessible as appropriate
  • Document management
  • Maintenance of correspondence register in line with company policy
  • Draft, edit and finalise policies and procedures and other documentation as required in line with each Trust Deed

About You

You will:

  • Have a high level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Understanding of the importance of compliance within a business context
  • Be compassionate, empathetic and resilient, willing to take the time to understand, identify and work through issues with our clients to find positive outcomes.
  • Be prepared to learn about our values and how they apply to our Aboriginal Clients.
  • Be part of a team which interacts and meets with Aboriginal People both in our Perth Office and travels for short periods to meet our clients on their country.
  • Create positive relationships with our clients and service providers

Essential Criteria:

  • High level interpersonal skills with the ability to establish and maintain positive and productive relationships with clients & suppliers
  • Ability to communicate effectively at all levels with well-developed written and verbal skills
  • Highly analytical and accurate
  • Proven experience in record management
  • Excellent level of IT literacy both in Microsoft Office and using operating systems to maintain records
  • Willingness to listen and learn from our clients
  • Proactive and autonomous and able to complete complex tasks

Preferred Criteria:

  • Knowledge of Charitable and Native Title Trusts.
  • Knowledge of Aboriginal people and their culture.
  • Proven understanding of cultural competence particularly with Aboriginal people
