AAP is offering multiple one-year, paid editorial traineeships to exceptional candidates. The program will provide thorough training in contemporary journalism alongside varied reporting experience.
Trainees will gain on-the-job experience across multiple journalistic rounds, including general news, court and sports reporting. Practical experience and mentoring will be complemented by regular intensive training sessions. Trainees receive specific instruction on interview techniques, ethics, media law, feature writing, and writing fast, accurate copy, as well as other essential elements of the craft.
Strong emphasis will be placed on using social media, including online verification and fact-checking techniques.
Successful candidates will contribute content to the newswire throughout their traineeship.
Trainees will be based in Sydney, with some travel required.

Candidates will have a Bachelor degree or equivalent.
They will be able to demonstrate a keen interest in current affairs and the Australian media landscape, plus well-developed research, writing and multimedia skills. Candidates must be willing to work in a team and take direction and feedback. The ability to multitask, and manage changing priorities with tight deadlines is essential.
