Wungening Aboriginal Corporation is a progressive Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation based in Perth. Wungening provides culturally secure community programs. Wungening recently established a Research and Evaluation team to fulfil the organisation’s goal to engage in culturally responsive community endorsed research; embed evaluation within all programs to establish an evidence base; and in the long term, to understand our impact.
Social Reinvestment WA (SRWA) is an Aboriginal led state-wide coalition of 30 non-profits, campaigning since 2016 to end the overrepresentation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in WA’s justice system. Our work includes leading a successful campaign to end imprisonment for unpaid fines; producing the podcast “Stories from the Inside”; Supporting communities developing place-based Justice Reinvestment sites including Olabud Doogethu in Halls Creek; Advocacy and policy work, particularly on youth justice issues. We are currently leading the campaign to Raise the Age of criminal responsibility from 10 to at least 14 in WA.
This position will form part of both the Wungening Research and Evaluation team the SRWA team. Employed by Wungening Aboriginal Corporation who auspice Social Reinvestment WA, and based at Wungening’s East Perth office in the Research and Evaluation team, this role will co-locate for a proportion of time at WACOSS in West Leederville, who currently host the SRWA team. Our growing teams are close knit, dynamic, supportive, and values driven.
The Research and Impact Officer will support communities to document, measure and build the evidence base as they lead justice reinvestment responses. You will support communities working on JR to document, evaluate, and build evidence for their work; develop impact assessments and outcomes framework; produce new research and papers to build JR evidence base; coordinate data, evidence, and best practice research for use by communities; and disseminate evidence for Justice Reinvestment for the wider community. The ability to research and write exceptionally well, analyse and interpret data, engage stakeholders, and measure impact are essential.
