The Victorian Equal Opportunity and Human Rights Commission (the Commission) is an independent statutory body with responsibilities under three Victorian laws: the Equal Opportunity Act 2010, Racial and Religious Tolerance Act 2001, and Charter of Human Rights and Responsibilities Act 2006.
The Commission is looking for a talented and motivated managing lawyer to head up our legal team for a period of 12 months to backfill for parental leave.
The Commission’s legal team operates a busy in-house advisory service on law and legal policy matters, as well as running the Commission’s litigation practice in human rights and equal opportunity law. The legal team also leads the Commission's investigation function which seeks to eliminate systemic discrimination to the greatest extent possible. This is a fast-paced but deeply rewarding role that provides an opportunity to work with a highly motivated and highly skilled legal team within an innovative and committed independent statutory authority.
To be successful in this role, you will have:
Experience in a managing lawyer role, or in the litigation of equal opportunity or human rights law, and exposure to Victorian government law and policy would be well regarded.
