About the role

Join Yarra Ranges Council and play a vital role in shaping sustainable waste management services for our community. We’re looking for a dedicated Waste Management Officer to assist in implementing and overseeing waste service contracts, ensuring adherence to safety standards and budget requirements.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Oversee contractor operations and performance, coordinating contract meetings and managing documentation.
  • Manage the Central Inbox, reviewing planning referrals and department correspondence.
  • Serve as the main contact for waste management enquiries, addressing escalated issues.
  • Review planning applications and provide departmental feedback on township improvement plans.
  • Coordinate grant funding correspondence and manage bin deliveries for approved events.
  • Maintain statistical information for the team and respond to survey requests as needed.
  • Participate in improvement projects and help develop waste management policies and procedures.
  • Promote collection services, including hard waste and bundled branch collections, in collaboration with communications teams.
  • Attend relevant meetings and contribute to educational initiatives on waste management services.

What you’ll bring to our team

  • A Degree or Diploma in Civil Engineering or similar qualification and relevant experience OR lesser formal qualifications with substantial experience in waste management services.
  • Strong organisational and communication skills.
  • Experience in contract management or waste operations is preferred.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with internal teams and external stakeholders

  • Full-time, permanent position
  • Salary between $93,007 - $101,379 (Band 6) per annum, plus 11.5% superannuation.
