About us

Youth Support + Advocacy Service (YSAS) is one of Australia’s largest and most comprehensive, youth specific community service organisation that enables young people experiencing serious disadvantage to access the resources and support they require to lead healthy and fulfilling lives.

YSAS is a Child Safe organisation. We actively promote the safety and wellbeing of young people, and are committed to protecting young people from harm or abuse who come into contact with and/or access our service. Applicants must undergo rigorous screening and recruitment processes, including providing evidence of current WWCC and National Police Check.

About the position

YSAS is working in partnership with Drummond Street Services and Odyssey to deliver the Zone and Intersectional Care Coordination Platform across the northwest region of Melbourne, funded by the North Western Melbourne Primary Health Network (NWMPHN). The Platform is based on evidence informed therapeutic process and intersectional practice aimed at increasing the engagement and improving AOD treatment outcomes for specific young people and families from diverse backgrounds and identities.

The three priority communities for The Zone are Pasifika communities, African communities and LGBTIQA+ communities. The Intersectional Care Coordination Platform recognises the need to privilege cultural and intersectional knowledge and competence within therapeutic service and practice decision making. It also puts at the centre the primacy of family as a setting for both risk and protective factors for problematic patterns of AOD use, but also its importance as fundamental to support recovery.

The Zone and Abbotsford Day Program Community Manager will lead the relationships with the North West Melbourne PHN (NWMPHN) and the Dept. of Families, Fairness and Housing on behalf of Zone partners, as well as, strengthening the alignment of the Zone with other Youth AOD outreach programs in the region. The manager facilitates program review and continuous improvement for the Zone and contributes to broader organisational development work.

Some of the key Selection criteria for this role are:

  • Significant management experience, with a demonstrated capability to provide leadership and direction to a multi-disciplinary staff group, and to be an effective member of a senior leadership team.
  • Understand and have experience providing services to young people, families and communities where intersectionality contributes to discrimination and disadvantage.
  • Demonstrated expertise in collaborating with other community service organisations, government and other funding providers.
  • Demonstrated ability to prepare performance related reports, and develop and implement strategies to ensure activity and quality targets are met.
  • Experience in the design, development, and review of service delivery that is responsive to the lives of families and young people at risk.
  • It is desirable that applicants have lived and living experience with the communities that The Zone aims to engage.
