About the position

The ADYC program is funded by the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) to provide a specialist Youth Alcohol and Other Drug (AOD) service to young people involved in the child protection system. The ADYC provides support and advice to staff in out of home care residential facilities; adolescent community placement and secure welfare services through specialist secondary consultation to Child Protection case planning processes; AOD education; appropriate AOD assessment, referral and linkages. Servicing the Southern Metropolitan Region, the Alcohol & Drug Youth Consultant will be based in Dandenong and be a member of the multi-disciplinary YSAS Southern team.

Your key responsibilities will include

  1. Provide direct client care to child protection clients with alcohol and drug use issues with a focus on developing and modelling of good practice
  2. Provide secondary consultation to Child Protection, Adolescent Community Placement and Out of Home Care staff; assist Child Protection, Adolescent Community Placement and Out of Home Care workers with history taking, devising, conducting and evaluating appropriate treatment for AOD issues.
  3. To offer support and training to the staff and case managers of young people located in Child Protection, Adolescent Community Placement and Out of Home Care; participate in professional development opportunities aimed at expanding skills and knowledge in the area of AOD; Collect and maintain appropriate data.
  4. Further develop cooperative working relationships between Child Protection and AOD services within the Southern Metropolitan Region or service catchment area.
