YMCA The Ridge Community Centre is a thriving community space based in Acacia Ridge. It operates as regional youth facility for young people to socialise and recreate in a safe and welcoming environment through structured and unstructured arts, cultural and sporting activities.
Under this brief, it is the intention of the YMCA of Brisbane to provide the following:
- A variety of programs and events that welcome and actively engage young people in arts, cultural and recreational activities;
- Support, advocacy and referral services;
- Facilitate and develop youth development pathways;
- Support the YMCA Special Assistance School for young people who are either at risk of or have disengaged from mainstream education;
- Direct support services, training and/or activities to young people 'at risk'
- Hire of meeting rooms and performance spaces to the community.
ABOUT THE ROLE
The role of Community Centre Coordinator is critical to the operation of The Ridge. The major tasks associated with the role include:
- Youth Services – Delivering programs, services and events to young people each week day afternoon, on weekends and during school vacations;
- Coordinating the use of spaces by youth programs / services; vocational training school; vocational training; community groups and community organisations hiring and operating services within the Centre;
- Administering asset management including maintenance, cleaning and safety of the Centre.
ABOUT YOU
To be successful in the role you will have the following demonstrated experience:
Essential:
- Tertiary Qualifications in human services, social work or a related field and significant demonstrated experience working with young people;
- Demonstrated skills and experience working with CALD communities;
- Demonstrated skills in youth engagement/empowerment processes;
- Up-to-date knowledge of the labour market, employability skills and job acquisition strategies; the ability to impart this knowledge to young people in engaging and creative ways;
- Excellent facilitation, negotiation, problem-solving, liaison and communication skills including well developed written and oral skills;
- Highly developed skills for working within a team environment to provide Individualised support and action plans for young people;
- Demonstrated ability supervising a staff team to achieve operational goals and in accordance with organisational requirements;
- Computer literacy and prior experience using a range of office software including Word, Excel;
- Current First Aid and CPR certificate;
- Possess or be willing to obtain a positive notice Blue Card in accordance with the Working Children (Risk Management and Screening) Act 2000 and a National Police Check.
