The WFC Youth Food Hub Worker(s) is a new role that will support the establishment of the Whittlesea Food Collective Food Hub. This will involve engaging in all aspects of WFC operations, including logistics, marketing and promotion, designing and implementing community programs and working with young people, volunteers and stakeholders.
We’re looking for young people who are passionate about making positive change in the community and improving food systems.
Overview of Duties
- Work with the WFC team to create a welcoming, vibrant space that promotes community involvement and connectedness
- Under the direction of the Whittlesea Food Collective Enterprise Lead, participate in all aspects of Food Hub market and community activity including logistics, purchasing supplies, safety, set up, deliveries, serving customers, maintaining cleanliness, pack down, reporting maintenance issues etc.
- Contribute to planning and delivering new programs and activities
- Work with schools, young people and customers to design and implement programs that respond to identified needs
- Participate in demonstration garden activities including planting, weeding, harvesting and the planning and implementation of garden programs
- Create and post social media content, update website and contribute to development of marketing/promotional content and materials
- Support the collection and maintenance of data in relation to market and community program activities to inform reporting and evaluation of programs and activities.
- Liaise and maintain positive relationships with stakeholders including producers, suppliers, schools and organisations
- Assist with the recruitment, training and support of volunteers to participate in the Food Hub program.
- Participate in the formal training program and Youth Food Network.
- Work collaboratively with the Whittlesea Food Collective team and other WCC programs and services where relevant
Youth training program and youth network
As part of your employment in the Food Hub, you will participate in a formal training program. This will enable you to develop knowledge and practical skills to be a change maker in your local area.
You will also be part of the Youth Food Network, made up of young people employed in 7 Food Hubs across Victoria. The network will support you to become an advocate in your local area and contribute to transforming our local food system.
