Social Venture Partners Melbourne, an affiliate of Social Venture Partners International network, is a not for profit membership organisation, made up of passionate individuals.

Through venture philanthropy, Social Venture Partners Melbourne works with not for profit youth focused organisations to build their capacity and provide the necessary skills, knowledge and resources that they normally wouldn’t have access to. Its goal is to improve organisational sustainability and accelerate growth so these organisations can create a greater impact on the lives of young Victorians.

Partners donate to a common fund which is then invested into selected not-for-profit organisations. In addition to funding, the recipient receives consulting and mentoring services from partners based on their professional background and skillset. The support for the not-for-profit organisations tends to:

  • Last over multiple years
  • Be focussed on making an “outcome based” investment
  • Provide infrastructure support / capacity building.

As Executive Director and the only paid employee within SVP Melbourne, you will be responsible for the running of the organisation. Duties will be varied and include:

  • Manage and develop relationships with SVP Melbourne partners to ensure their volunteer experience is maximised to their capacity.
  • Promotion of SVPM, its purpose and achievements in order to grow its impact and recruit new partners
  • Assisting partners in maximising the impact of SVPM by maintaining and developing tools and systems that support their work.
  • Supporting SVPM’s core relationships with its Philanthropic Foundation Partners and seeking new partnerships to increase their impact.
  • Management of key across organisational tasks including evaluation of impact, ensuring balance of partner engagement, and connecting our NFP organisations with each other to learn and grow.
  • Managing the business of the board, which meets bi-monthly.
  • Organisation and facilitations of meetings, usually one to two per month.
  • Assist in managing the finances of the group.
  • Serve as SVP’s primary interface with the SVP International network, which entails occasional meetings.

To be successful in this role you could come from a variety of backgrounds however the following descriptors are likely to apply to you:

  • Experience in managing/supporting communities/networks/membership organisations.
  • Well-developed communication and promotional skills.
  • Possess strong interpersonal capabilities and an ability to influence others.
  • Possess the confidence and capacity to work independently and flexibly.
  • Experience in working with and reporting to boards.
  • Possess an understanding of the Philanthropic sector.
  • Events experience an advantage, but not a requirement.
  • A hands-on approach to tasks and problem solving.

This role will be offered on a 2 day per week working from home basis with flexible hours (occasionally events will demand some work outside of usual hours).
