About the opportunity

The Uniting After Hours Response and Support Worker plays a crucial role in providing after-hours first-tier response and support to Uniting Continuing Care Out of Home Care (OoHC) program support services staff, foster carers, and Kinship carers during the weekends. This role is essential for ensuring the safety and well-being of children in our care.

In this role you will be required to provide after hours support to the Residential, Home Based Care and Kinship programs on weekends between the hours of 7am and 11pm. There are two shift patterns 7am-3pm or 3pm- 11pm.

As an After Hours Response & Support Worker you will:

  • Provide information and guidance to service users, focusing on maintaining placement integrity and adherence to client management plans.
  • Communicate with the 2nd tier of Uniting After Hours Service for Children, Youth, and Family Services as necessary and make critical decisions regarding interaction with emergency services and After Hours Child Protection (AHCP).
  • Ensure compliance with legislative requirements and procedures established by the Department of Fairness, Family, and Housing (DFFH) and Uniting for client safety and incident reporting.
  • Produce accurate reports during shifts, maintain an efficient filing system for relevant documentation, conduct file audits as per DFFH guidelines, and complete other administrative tasks to support the program as needed.

About you

To be successful in this role, the ideal candidate will have:

  • Certificate IV in Child, Youth and Family Intervention (Residential and Out of Home Care)
  • OR Certificate IV in Youth Work, Mental Health, Community Services, Alcohol & Other Drugs, Disability, Social Work or related disciplines with the addition of the appropriate skill set added.
  • 2 years demonstrated experience in the provision of care and support to children in ‘out of home care’
  • Experience and demonstrated ability to work with young people who have experienced past trauma and abuse which may manifest in challenging behaviours and social and emotional difficulties
  • Experience working within child protection and/or the youth welfare sector
