About the program

We are currently seeking an experienced Mental Health Nurse to join our team on a casual basis. You will be available at short notice to work shifts in the morning, afternoon and night.

Mums and Kids Matter is an innovative program that supports mothers with a mental illness and their children 0-5 years. The service provides holistic care with special focus on mother’s mental health and parenting and attachment. We are seeking mental health trained nurses with experience and interest in perinatal mental health, parenting, early childhood and attachment, for this role.

You will be based at our residential site and work with an enrolled nurse or registered nurse to support mothers and their children 0-5 years. To succeed in this role, you will be able to work autonomously and enjoy client facing work. This is a very rewarding position in a program that achieves great outcomes for mothers with a mental illness and their children.

Essential criteria

  • Australian citizen or permanent resident
  • registered Nurse in NSW with current authority to practice
  • post graduate qualifications in mental health or significant mental health experience
  • strong mental health assessment skills including risk and suicide assessments
  • excellent written, verbal and interpersonal skills
  • knowledge and commitment to working in a person/family centred, recovery-oriented approach
  • knowledge of child protection issues and mandatory reporting
  • computer literate and able to use computerised database (training will be provided)
  • must hold a current unrestricted NSW Driver’s License
  • current First Aid Certificate 

Desirable criteria

  • perinatal mental health nursing experience
  • experience working with families (including children 0-5)
  • car preferred due to location of service
