An excellent opportunity is available for a Business Development Associate to join the Partnerships and Ventures team at Australia's pre-eminent biomedical research institute.

About the Position

The Business Development Associate assists the Partnerships and Ventures department in commercialisation of research, business development, advocacy and technology transfer activities. Under the guidance of the team, the Associate supports business development projects, which ultimately enable effective capture and translation of Institute intellectual property, and education of institute staff in collaboration, translation and technology transfer. Areas of activity include opportunity identification, intellectual property capture, marketing and communication, legal agreements, strategic plans, and training. From time to time the Associate may be expected to be involved in the activities of Institute start-up companies.

Selection Criteria

Essential Knowledge and Skills:

  • A PhD in a science-based discipline relevant to the pharmaceutical or biotechnology areas with some commercial or laboratory research experience
  • Exposure to, or some experience in, business development in an academic or commercial environment
  • A basic understanding of issues involved with technology transfer and knowledge transfer
  • Understanding of drivers of research and biomedical industry dynamics
  • Cross-cultural understanding

Personal Qualities:

  • Excellent oral, written and interpersonal skills with aptitude for interacting with a variety of technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Ability to develop networks, and build and manage relationships with a broad range of academic, clinical and commercial stakeholders
  • Strong presentation and public speaking skills
  • Strong analytical, conceptual, problem solving and research project management skills
  • Ability to work as an effective member of a small team and provide support where required
  • Ability to deliver high quality outputs to agreed deadlines
  • High integrity and ability to manage confidential information

Terms of Appointment

This position is fixed term until February 2024 (possibility for extension) in a full-time capacity. Salary is Professional Services Employee (PSE) Level 6 - 7 ($88,811- $106,076). Up to 17% superannuation and very attractive salary packaging options are available.
