Wellington Aboriginal Corporation Health Service (WACHS) aims to empower targeted Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to take control of their individual, family and community health and wellbeing needs through the community controlled model.
The ANFPP Nurse Home Visitor is responsible for providing comprehensive community health nursing services to Indigenous women and their families identified for the ANFP Program. The home visiting begins during the antenatal period and continues until the child is 2 years old. The Nurse Home Visitor is responsible for maintaining the highest standards in nursing practice and adherence to the ANFPP model, policies, procedures, guidelines and standards of the ANFPP, and of the Wellington Aboriginal Corporation Health Service.
Essential Criteria
- Registered or eligible for registration as a Registered Nurse and/or Midwife with the AHPRA
- Two years recent experience in maternal/child health, community health or mental health nursing
- Knowledge and understanding of the issues that impact on Aboriginal people and Aboriginal communities
- An understanding of the social determinants of health and the causes of inequities in health and health care
- An understanding of the principles of primary health care
- Knowledge and awareness of protocols and benefits from home visiting services
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Intermediate computer skills including ability to use Microsoft Windows based programs and Microsoft Office
- Valid drivers licence
- Ability to work autonomously, demonstrating efficient time management skills
- Willingness to undertake professional training
- Willingness to collaborate with Aboriginal Family Partnership Workers, Aboriginal Health Workers and other Aboriginal staff, to build and maintain therapeutic relationships with clients and their families.
- Understanding of EEO, WHS, and ethical work practices, and the ability to implement and model these standards within the workplace
