About who we support

Vision Australia provides services to more than 25,500 people clients from 35 Vision Australia centres in Victoria, New South Wales, the Australian Capital Territory, Queensland, South Australia and Western Australia and through outreach programs in the Northern Territory and Tasmania.

About the role

We are looking for a dedicated Optometrist committed to contributing specialist knowledge and skills to develop a low vision optical service in our centrally located Kooyong clinic. Our commitment is to ensure that all low vision clients receive the highest-quality optometric care and support to best use their remaining vision. In this new role, you will:

  • Establish a revitalised low vision optometry service within Vision Australia’s head office in Kooyong
  • Design and implement optical software and internal processes to develop a low vision service that will also support existing rehabilitation services
  • Practice specialised low vision optometry in a range of settings, including outreach
  • Provide functional vision assessments and recommendations that address the priorities of clients of all ages, supporting them to make the most effective use of their vision
  • Provide information to clients and their carers/family about eye conditions appropriate to their needs
  • Prepare clinical and functional vision assessment reports as requested by clients and/or third parties

Many of our clients are co-managed with other healthcare professionals, with the new Vision Australia’s low vision clinic providing low vision assessments, rehabilitative care, and another optometrist or ophthalmologist managing ocular healthcare.

About you

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Approved qualifications in Optometry as recognised by Optometry Australian
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience and a suitable Medicare provider number
  • Strong motivation to serve the community, particularly older Australians with significant vision impairment, and
  • Desire to be part of a team making a difference every day.
