Vets Beyond Borders (VBB) is an animal welfare charity which deploys experienced volunteer vets and vet nurses to animal welfare projects in need of help to perform their wonderful, but all too often challenging, work.

Working with more than 30 Partner Organisations across Australia, Asia, and the Pacific, VBB provides more than 150 skilled volunteer veterinary professionals a year where they are needed most.

VBB’s approach to animal welfare is rooted in the principle of “One Health” as we understand the significant impact that animal health has on people's health and the environment.

In addition to providing veterinary volunteers to our partner organisations, we deliver free clinical training in regions where it's not readily accessible, or affordable, and maintain a nationwide database of veterinary professionals ready to be deployed during fires, floods, or disease outbreaks.

We are a small, not-for-profit with one full time and one casual employee and a hands-on Board of Directors. Our funding comes from our membership (vets, vet nurses and vet students) and some philanthropic donations. We currently receive no government funding.

We are seeking two new directors to join the VBB Board with particular skills that will complement the strengths of continuing Board members. Candidates with proficiencies and experience in sponsorship and/or legal expertise are sought for this round of board appointments to improve governance and help us grow the organisation through strategic corporate and government partnerships.

KEY REQUIREMENTS:

  • Alignment with VBB’s mission to create a world of better health for animals and people.
  • Established networks with potential partners and donors whose values align with VBB’s mission.
  • Experience in the not-for-profit or charity sector (preferred).
  • Proficiency in governance and financial literacy.
  • Strong understanding of legal and regulatory frameworks applicable to non-profit organisations.

FREQUENCY OF BOARD MEETINGS

  • VBB meetings are generally held 6-8 times per year, with one meeting in person in Sydney and all other meetings held virtually.

Directors are also expected to serve on one or more of the following board subcommittee/s:

  • Governance & Risk Committee
  • Finance & Fundraising Management Committee
  • Programs Committee
