In this role, you will coordinate activities for implementing and delivering a new co-designed legal service model for consumers experiencing compulsory mental health treatment and who have a hearing at the Mental Health Tribunal. This includes supporting the implementation of the Mental Health Legal Rights Service model across the three legal service partners – Victoria Legal Aid, Mental Health Legal Centre and Victorian Aboriginal Legal Service, working collaboratively with project partners and internal and external stakeholders to coordinate activities and initiatives, systems and processes across the legal partners to ensure effective delivery of accessible, consumer-centred legal services under the new model, and the Mental Health and Wellbeing Act 2022.
This role is based at our Melbourne CBD office on Wurundjeri Country.

The Mental Health Legal Rights Service is a new legal service model co-designed with consumers and stakeholders that will be implemented across VLA, Mental Health Legal Centre and Victorian Aboriginal Legal Service. The service will provide legal assistance to consumers subject to compulsory mental health treatment, in particular in relation to their Mental Health Tribunal hearings. It is a coordinated collaborative consumer-centred model that will increase access to timely legal assistance, protect consumer rights, and advocate for a more consumer-centred and human-rights focused mental health system.
