Victoria Legal Aid's (VLA) Legal Help service is the entry point for Victorians seeking legal assistance. The service assists over 132,000 Victorians over the telephone each year providing information, legal advice and referrals on a wide variety of legal issues. This service is provided in English and over 20 other languages.
You have experience working in a legal environment and may be tertiary qualified in law. You will provide accurate, responsive and high quality legal triage legal information over the telephone on a wide range of legal matters and referrals to legal and non-legal services. This position does not permit the provision of legal advice and a practicing certificate is not required.
Casual positions:
You will be provided with shifts in advance based upon operational requirements and will also be available at short notice. There will be guaranteed a minimum number of hours for each shift.
Please note: it is a requirement of the role that successful candidates will undertake a compulsory full time 2 week intensive training period upon commencement.
You have experience working in a legal and or contact centre environment. You can demonstrate problem solving skills and the capacity to diagnose legal problems to accurately assess and address client needs. You have an understanding of the referral service practice and knowledge of legal, community and welfare organisations. You are a team player and can work within a fast paced environment.
Crucial to your success in this role will be your high level interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with clients over the phone whilst understanding their legal needs. You will have a good understanding of the key challenges experienced by vulnerable individuals and groups experience accessing legal services.
Fluency in a language other than English will be highly regarded.
