About the role:

New opportunities have become available for enthusiastic legal assistants to join our busy and friendly Criminal Law Program administrative services team based in Melbourne CBD. 

Reporting in to the Administrative Services Manager you will work with a team of legal assistants to provide a wide range of legal administration support to our lawyers in criminal law matters. You will also assist our clients with general enquiries and work with external legal practitioners and community legal centres to ensure the needs of our clients are met. Other duties will include but are not limited to; email, diary management and bookings, maintaining client database and case management system, and general administrative duties, including court clerking.

We have various ongoing and maximum term (up to 12 months) full time positions available.

This is an exceptional opportunity for an experienced legal assistant to be part of VLA's largest state wide program and contribute to the effective and efficient delivery of quality services across the state.

About you:

We are seeking self motivated and enthusiastic candidates who take pride in their work and are passionate about the work they do.

You will have experience providing administrative and client services in a complex and sensitive environment with proven skills in producing quality administrative work, working under limited direction, managing multiple priorities and meeting tight deadlines whilst maintaining a high standard of work. Experience providing administrative and client services within legal services will be highly regarded.

Crucial to your success in this role will be your highly developed verbal and written communication skills and ability to provide exceptional customer service to our vulnerable clients among other stakeholders in person and over the phone. You will be a team player and adaptable with the ability to maintain a positive outlook in a high-pressure environment. You will also demonstrate a willingness to learn and contribute to the promotion of our organisation's vision and values.
