About the role

The role of the YTC Senior Case Worker will be responsible for providing a range of case work functions requiring a high level of knowledge and skills of working with complex Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people who are involved with the justice system whilst in Custody and as they transition out of Custody.

The role will mentor and provide guidance to case workers in the delivery of the YTC program. Senior Case workers provide support to the team leader to ensure the YTC program is providing culturally safe and trauma informed care to their clients.

• Demonstrated commitment and understanding for the values that underpin VACCA’ vision and purpose.
• Awareness and appreciation of Aboriginal societies and cultures and an understanding of the issues affecting Aboriginal people in contemporary Australia and the diversity of circumstances of Aboriginal people.
• Demonstrated understanding in working with Aboriginal families and children.
• Demonstrated ability to maintain clear and respectful boundaries with young people who display challenging behaviours.
• Demonstrated ability to identify and de-escalate potentially volatile behaviours and /or situations.
• Demonstrated ability to support young people to identify and achieve individual & SMART goals.
• Demonstrated ability to mentor staff by providing them with relevant information, support, feedback about their work, and opportunities for professional development.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team and collaborate with a broad range of services and external stakeholders.
• High level organisational skills including time management and the ability to develop, plan and supervise the implementation of cultural, educational and/or developmental programs for clients.
• Current COVID-19 vaccination (including booster if applicable).

Desirable

• A relevant qualification in Case Management and/or Therapeutic Practices (i.e. Trauma-informed Care, AoD, Domestic Violence, Social Work, Community Development or other relevant areas).
• Minimum 3 years work in Youth Justice, Case Management, or industry experience.
