About the role

As the Family Meeting Convener reporting directly to the Practice Leader, you will play a pivotal role in fostering meaningful connections with families. Your responsibilities encompass identifying and mobilising family support networks, as well as navigating discussions with families facing notable concerns regarding the safety and well-being of children and young individuals. Collaborating closely with Aboriginal children and families, along with government and sector partners, you will actively contribute to diminishing the disproportionate representation of Aboriginal children within the Child Protection system. Your overarching goal will be to champion improved outcomes for children, ensuring their welfare is prioritised and safeguarded.

About You

  • Demonstrated awareness and appreciation of Aboriginal societies and cultures, and commitment to continually build knowledge of such, along with a high level of awareness of the key issues that impact Aboriginal communities
  • Demonstrated experience in working and engaging with Aboriginal families and children / Demonstrated experience in the child and family sector
  • Highly developed negotiation and meeting facilitation skills
  • Willingness to work through conflict situations in an understanding way to achieve the best possible outcomes
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills including the capacity to negotiate and work effectively with a range of individuals and agencies to achieve positive outcomes
  • Ability to make decisions in high-pressure contexts, clearly able to communicate the rationale for decisions
  • Ability to engage children, young people families and communities through a friendly warm approach
