About the Role

  • You can demonstrate your ability to build and maintain relationships and alliances with a wide range of stakeholders including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders peoples
  • You are an experienced professional with a passion for providing culturally appropriate career coaching for First Nations individuals into meaningful employment. Ideally, you will also have experience working with neurodiverse individuals. If so, this could be the role for you!

The purpose of this position as a First Nations Support Consultant (FN SC), is to contribute as a member of the Untapped team to meet the objectives of our curriculum of learning for our First Nations employees. Working closely with our client, you will provide daily onsite support, coaching and mentoring to First Nations trainees.

This may include neurodivergent and neurotypical trainees. You will foster and support the client relationship and drive for a socially inclusive workplace culture. You will be called on from time to time to represent Untapped Talent and it’s partners or clients at expos and industry forums as a First Nations specialist.

Key responsibilities:

As a First Nations Support Consultant you will:

  • possess culturally appropriate engagement and communication skills
  • establish and maintain mutually beneficial relationships and partnerships with Traditional Owner groups and other First Nations community organisations
  • work with the client to embed First Nations and neurodiversity employment practices to enable ongoing success in hiring, training, and retaining talent for enduring business benefit
  • provide direct on-site person-centred support to trainees
  • support participants' engagement and welfare in the periods prior to and during program delivery
  • lead and facilitate engagement with indigenous organisations and initiatives to position the program as a positive experience for First Nations people
  • participate in the recruitment, communications and partnerships relating to our programs
  • provide mentoring and advocacy to empower individuals to achieve their employment goals
  • work alongside technical staff and trainers to ensure individuals are supported to succeed in the workplace
  • implement strategies for reaching work and life goals through the learning curriculum
  • provide training and ongoing coaching promoting the inclusion of First Nations and neurodivergent individuals within the organisation
  • develop good working relationships with stakeholders across a range of diversified groups: customer, program executives and community groups
  • continue to contribute to successful outcomes for the employees through helping to shape and innovate the tools, methods, processes, and learning used within the program
  • facilitate connections to other supports if and as necessary; e.g. NDIS, support workers, dieticians, mentors, and health professionals
  • deliver awareness training to employers, managers, executives, and co-workers through a combination of face-to-face or virtual sessions
  • run virtual or face to face workshops for assessment of suitable candidates to open roles
  • help team members to recognise stress and anxiety and to adopt strategies to minimise the impact

Desirable skills, experience, and qualifications:

  • Identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander
  • Experience in writing and delivering Cultural Awareness Training
  • Tertiary qualifications in a relevant human sciences discipline or equivalent life/career experience
  • Strength-based approach, with the ability to support neurodivergent individuals in the workplace
  • Experience in person-centred planning and approaches
  • Experience in identifying, developing, and delivering training
  • Competence in Microsoft Office applications. Proactive attitude to working in a more complex IT environment
  • Strong teamwork focus
  • Demonstrated highly effective interpersonal communication skills
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively, and to build effective relationships at all levels with internal and external stakeholders Highly regarded
  • Professional experience in the field of neurodiversity
  • Experience in working with neurodivergent adults
  • Experience with workplace coaching of autistic individuals
  • Cert IV in Training & Assessment

Special Conditions

  • Current open driver’s license
  • Metropolitan and intrastate travel may be required
  • May be required to use own vehicle for work purposes
