About the opportunity

The Gender Equality in Working Life Research Initiative was launched in March 2022. It will undertake research on gender dynamics in work and careers across sectors, life stages and levels. As the Research Officer - Gender Equality in Working Life, you’ll provide support to the Director Professor Rae Cooper and Deputy Director Elizabeth Hill to apply for funding, meet milestones, keep to budget, communicate with stakeholders and report progress and achievements.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • Undertake administrative tasks in relation to the operation of the centre, including budgets, travel, and reporting
  • Identify and liaise with research stakeholders, organise events to promote scholarly and industry, government and research collaborations
  • Prepare presentations, discussion papers and reports for academic and industry audiences
  • Design research protocols, draft applications for funding and report on outcomes
  • Manage update web and social media accounts
  • Provide secretariat support to governance activities

About you

We are looking for a Research Officer - Gender Equality in Working Life who possesses:

  • Tertiary qualifications in an appropriate discipline with relevant experience in related field. May have (or be working towards) completing further studies or have extensive specialist experience in the social sciences
  • Insight and passion relating to gender equality in working life as it plays out in workplaces, labour markets and the economy.
  • Experience in working in a fast-paced environment, on multiple projects with tight deadlines
  • Experience in liaising with and engaging diverse groups of stakeholders through projects and programs and a demonstrated capacity to build relationships and consensus around complex problems
  • Experience in a research-related environment, with a working knowledge of research and an interest in translating results for impact
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills and the ability to communicate complex ideas in a concise, engaging and research-informed fashion
  • Numeracy skills together with experience in controlling income/expenditure for reconciliation/budget tracking and managing invoice payments and purchases

The incumbent is expected to carry out routine tasks fairly autonomously, with minimal guidance and/or supervision once process/procedure is agreed upon and/or learnt and to prioritise their own work to meet any deadlines and project needs.

Australian Temporary Residents currently employed at the University of Sydney may be considered for a fixed term contract for the length of their visa, depending on the requirements of the hiring area and the position.
