About the opportunity

The University of Sydney is welcoming applications for a Research Assistant to support the Growing Minds Australia team. Growing Minds Australia (GMA) is an exciting new child and youth clinical trials network funded by NHMRC Medical Research Future Fund (MRFF) and led by Professor Mark Dadds and a team of 60 investigators. The clinical trials network has been funded for 5 years to increase the collaboration, coordination, and efficiency in conducting clinical trials in child and youth mental health in Australia. You will be required to provide technical and operational support to the Executive Officer, Chief Investigators, and the team to support the research activity and/or clinical trial requirements for the work area. Specifically, the research assistant will coordinate the set up and evaluation of an Australian adaptation of the UK’s Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT) system in a number of child and youth mental health clinics around Australia. In this role, you will prepare relevant materials in collaboration with team members, perform fundamental aspects of research work, and facilitate the efficient operation of the research laboratory by providing essential technical and operational support. The incumbent will be expected to coordinate the activities associated within the clinical trials network.

About you

  • a tertiary qualification in appropriate discipline and/or relevant experience in related field. May have (or be working towards) postgraduate qualifications
  • proven experience in developing and working on research projects, including expertise in using research protocols, experimental design, ethics submissions
  • experience in carrying out scientific literary searches, and preparing literary reviews for further analysis
  • interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills with sound negotiating and conflict resolution skills and a demonstrated level of tact and discretion in dealing with day-to-day operational matters
  • ability to work both independently and as part of a team, taking initiative and exercising sound judgement in resolving matters that may arise as part of normal daily work
  • strong problem-solving skills and the ability to use initiative and exercise sound judgement and ability to prioritise workload during busy periods
  • advanced skills data analysis, using SPSS, and reporting on research findings.
