About the opportunity

The University of Sydney is welcoming applications for an Associate Lecturer/Lecturer Clinical Psychology (Education Focused) role. The position is an education-focused specialised category of academic engagement reserved for talented educators with a passion for, and demonstrated excellence in, pedagogical practice and design. The successful applicant will be working within the School of Psychology, primarily in the Clinical Psychology Unit, located in the Brain & Mind Centre.

The Associate Lecturer/Lecturer in Clinical Psychology (Education Focused) will be required to make a significant contribution to teaching and learning practice, design and evaluation within the School and will be on a trajectory towards leadership in educational design and delivery.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • undertake independent teaching into the School’s accredited teaching programs, in particular supervision of students in the Psychology Clinic on the Master of Clinical Psychology (MCP)
  • engage in high-quality teaching and learning experiences that meet the University’s expectations and standards for education-focused staff
  • contribute to outstanding educational design, delivery, and evaluation to improve student outcomes
  • apply knowledge of contemporary pedagogical practice to innovate education
  • engage with a research program on a clinical/mental health topic in line with the School and Psychology Clinic strategic priorities.

About you

As such, we see the importance of recruiting talent aligned to these values and are looking for an Associate Lecturer/Lecturer in Clinical Psychology (Education Focused) who has:

  • a PhD (or near completion) in the area of clinical psychology or closely related discipline. Preferred but not essential
  • a Postgraduate degree in Clinical Psychology accredited by the Australian Psychology Accreditation Council (or international equivalent)
  • registration as a psychologist with an Area of Practice Endorsement (AoPE) in clinical psychology, or eligibility for registration with an AoPE in clinical psychology
  • an approved supervisor status with the Psychology Board of Australia (PsyBA) or eligibility to undertake PsyBA approved supervisor training
  • a proven ability, commitment, and passion for engaging in scholarly activities to inform innovative pedagogical practice
  • a demonstrated capacity to stimulate, actively engage and educate an audience using a range of media
  • a deep and broad experience in teaching and learning in a tertiary environment, as evidenced by participation in team teaching within an established program and experience in teaching in a variety of settings
  • demonstrated success in designing, implementing, and evaluating teaching and learning initiatives
  • a developing network of relationships with key academic, industry and professional institutions, partners, and stakeholders
  • experience in supervising or mentoring others and/or coordinating team activities
  • demonstrated capacity to establish a program of research.

The commencement level will be determined based on the candidate’s skills, experience, and knowledge.
