The Vocational Specialist will provide career development advice, and vocational and employment assistance to young people with mental illness up to the age of 25, in tandem with the headspace clinical team, to ensure young people can achieve and maintain sustainable participation in vocational education and employment, engaging in regular job search activities with participants, assisting participants to apply for jobs and contact employers as well as providing post-placement support.

Role Overview:

As a Vocational Specialist, your role will include (not limited to):

  • Actively manage a caseload of participants, to assist young job seekers in identifying their educational and employment goals.
  • Co-design career profiles and individual Vocational Plans with participants, with input from the participants' clinical team.
  • Conduct regular job development and job search activities with participants, and assist them in applying and contacting employers.
  • Liaise with Disability Employment Services (DES) or Jobactive providers where applicable.
  • Attend appropriate external forums, government or funding body meetings, and other networking events
  • Provide post-placement planning and in-work support to participants as required.

Selection Criteria:

  • Current Australian Driver’s Licence.
  • At least one to two years of experience in your field of expertise.
  • Experience in providing innovative ideas to solve problems and forging relationships through influence.
  • Demonstrated recovery-focused, person-centred attitude towards people with mental health needs and disabilities.
  • Well-developed computer, technology, and administration skills..

Even better: 

  • Completion of a relevant tertiary qualification
  • Experience working with young people with mental health needs or disabilities
  • Knowledge of employment related services, relevant legislation and local labour market trends
  • Knowledge of local education providers and the admissions systems
  • Experience in collaborative partnerships with government or non-government organisations, including working with a range of community partners. 
  • Experience working with specific populations of people (e.g. Aboriginal Torres Strait Islander populations, CALD, LTBGQI+ communities)​.
