Twenty10 incorporating GLCS NSW provides a broad range of specialised services for LGBTIQA+ people and people of diverse genders, sexualities and intersex status including; housing, mental health, counselling and social supports for young people, counselling and social support services to adults, and inclusivity training and consultation for organisations and service providers across most sectors.
The QLife and Volunteer Engagement Officer is a permanent, part-time role, 60 hours per fortnight (4 days/week), working mostly office hours with some planned evenings and weekends throughout the year, paid as per SCHADS Level 5.
The role is based in Inner Sydney and commences in October-November 2023.
This position is responsible for the co-ordination of the NSW QLife program, Australia’s national peer support service. They are responsible for the recruitment, training, engagement and professional development of volunteers in the Qlife program and all of Twenty10’s programs and working with volunteers responsible for Twenty10’s presence at community events and stalls.
Staff are provided with individual supervision and professional development opportunities.
Qualifications and Prerequisites
- Current NSW Working with Children Check clearance and National Police Check Certificate upon commencement.
- Current NSW Driver’s license.
- Experience Required
- Lived experience as an LGBTIQA+ person, including Brotherboys and Sistergirls
- A nuanced understanding of the complex issues faced by members of the intersectional lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex, queer and asexual (LGBTIQA+) communities, including current health, human rights and psycho-social issues, especially mental health, and suicide prevention
- Experience as an operations or volunteer program coordinator, project manager, or similar, ideally in a community organisation
- Demonstrated experience working on a tele-web helpline or equivalent and /or demonstrated knowledge of best practice in helpline/tele-web services
- Demonstrated experience in coordinating, supporting and mentoring workers (staff and/or volunteers) including outstanding negotiation skills for achieving results and maintaining key relationships
Computer Skills
- Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, and Excel), and an understanding of technical systems both hard and software
- Demonstrated experience in working with databases (iCarol or similar), and client data management systems.
Aptitude & Interpersonal Skills
- Highly developed organisational and project management skills including managing complex workloads with competing deadlines, including strong self-management skills, being adaptable, responsive, proactive, self-motivated, ability to multi-task and prioritise work systems
- Excellent communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills including demonstrated skills and ability to communicate effectively and sensitivity and develop rapport with a wide range of people including those who identify as LGBTIQA+
- Outstanding negotiation skills and demonstrated experience managing working relationships with a range of people including contractors and organisational partners and for representing the organisation
- Enjoyment of working within a multidisciplinary workplace with complex targets and competing short term/long term demands
- Strong reflective practice and self-care skills, with a commitment to maintaining currency of skills and knowledge
- Strong initiative, positivity and demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced environment, both independently and as part of a team, and ability for conceptual and strategic problem solving
- Willingness and ability to sometimes work outside of normal business hours and to travel for short periods if required
- Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to safeguarding children and other vulnerable people.
