Thrive’s primary role is to help refugees and authorised asylum seekers start and grow viable businesses by providing business support, mentoring and business loans.

The position of Business Development Manager is a new position to be based in Brisbane or Logan and servicing South East Queensland and Toowoomba.

Position Summary

The position is a client-facing position working directly with our customers, community, and sector partners to identify and support existing refugees and asylum seekers to start and or grow their own business. You will be responsible for delivering tailored business support, mentoring, and preparing submissions for finance.

The position will require an enthusiastic individual eager to assist our customers to become business ready and have a pro-active approach to delivering business development activities and managing the customer journey.

The role requires you to work with clients from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds.

You will be required to conduct regular travel within South-East Queensland including Toowoomba.

  • Must be able to adhere to professional standards and work with people of Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) background.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Delivery of key performance outcomes related to new business starts with and or without financing.
  • Development and effective management of the customer pipeline and its progress ensuring business support and mentoring activities are delivered in a timely manner.
  • Delivery of business development activities including regular information sessions and workshops to be delivered in person or via zoom to referral and or other partner organisations, community leaders and to prospective customers.
  • Maintain relationships with client case managers from refugee organisations, migrant resource centres, settlement agencies, community groups, NIES providers and other key referral sources.
  • Delivery of one-on-one business support activities to assist clients to become business ready. Including assisting clients with development of business plans, cash flow forecasts and business readiness checklists.
  • Processing of business finance application and credit submissions to a high standard.
  • Ensure database and CRM data including client information and activities are accurate and kept up-to-date.
  • Monitor business performance of existing clients on a monthly basis. Business performance issues to be reported to State Manager and Credit Team on a regular basis.
  • Identify development, training opportunities for our customers and refer to appropriate external organisation as appropriate.
  • Management of mentors and volunteers and the delivery of business support activities.
  • Ensure all training and compliance modules are completed and current. Potential breaches are reported.

Qualifications/ Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in business or commensurate employment experience
  • Sales experience with exposure to banking and or financing industries would be advantageous
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Proven networking and interpersonal skills
  • Some experience in working with people from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds

Other Requirements

  • The successful candidate must have a driver’s licence and access to transport.
  • Regular Travel within South-East Queensland including Toowoomba.
