SAMESH is a partnership program between SHINE SA and Thorne Harbour Health (THH, formerly the Victorian AIDS Council (VAC)). This partnership offers an innovative approach to HIV and STI prevention for priority populations in South Australia, as it combines the expertise of local knowledge and networks of SA’s peak sexual health organisation, with the HIV-specific experience and community-led expertise and credibility of Australia’s oldest AIDS council.
SAMESH delivers a range of preventative and health promotion community engagement initiatives and activities aimed at improving the health outcomes of LGBTI communities, with a focus on HIV and gay men. The framework of SAMESH is a combination of adult learning, peer education, health promotion, social marketing, community development, and cultural intervention.
The Self-Testing Project Support Worker will work as part of the SAMESH team to manage and maintain the use of smart vending machines to dispense HIV Self-Tests to support rapid testing and to strengthen pathways to treatment and support for gay and other men who have sex with men from non-English speaking backgrounds, migrants and international student.
