SCOPE OF ROLE

Talent Beyond Boundaries is looking for a dynamic Global Communications Director to lead our global communications, marketing and media functions, including managing communications staff, volunteers and service providers. The role is responsible for TBB’s communications projects and assets, and will ensure that messaging across all channels and markets is aligned with TBB’s vision, brand and strategic objectives.

Talent Beyond Boundaries (TBB) envisions a world where displaced people can safely migrate for work, using their skills to rebuild their lives with dignity and purpose. We work with governments, employers and partners to overcome the barriers that often prevent refugees from accessing skilled migration pathways. TBB seeks to be a catalyst for systems change in skilled migration, laying the groundwork for this solution to scale to serve millions of displaced people.

RESPONSIBILITIES

This role is responsible for delivering on TBB’s 5-year global communications strategy.

Specific duties:

  • Strategy & Planning: Develop and implement communications strategies and plans (digital, marketing, and media) in line with TBB’s global vision, brand and strategic objectives.
  • Content & Brand: Ensure compelling, high-quality, on-message content across all channels and markets. Act as Editor-In-Chief for TBB’s flagship publications and channels, including the website (talentbeyondboundaries.org), e-newsletters, digital marketing, and social media channels.
  • Budget: Manage global communications budget and relationships with external suppliers.
  • Management: Manage a high-performing communications team across multiple time zones and geographic locations; coordinate communications suppliers and volunteers.
  • Tools & training: Provide appropriate tools, templates, training, processes, and feedback to support communications staff and the wider TBB team to produce high-quality on-brand comms materials as required.
  • Media & PR: Foster relationships with key media outlets to position TBB as a thought leader and advance the organisation’s strategic goals. Train and support media spokespeople - including staff, candidates, and partners - to represent TBB on the public stage.
  • Fundraising: Advise on and oversee the public-facing components of any fundraising or corporate outreach initiatives.
  • Leadership: Contribute to TBB’s broader success as part of the Global Leadership Team.
  • Other duties as required.

SKILLS, EXPERIENCE & ATTITUDE

Essential

  • Experience creating and delivering effective communications strategies for dynamic, fast-moving, purpose-driven organisations.
  • Experience building and managing a high-performing communications team.
  • Experience as a content planner, creator, and editor - and the judgement to repeatedly find the right message for the right audience at the right time.
  • Exceptional written and verbal English communication skills (additional languages are a bonus).
  • Ability to strategise and to see both the big picture and execute on the small details, delivering a high-quality outcome every time.
  • Ability to manage a budget, and think creatively to deliver high-quality outcomes with limited funds.
  • Solid digital literacy and willingness to use/learn a range of digital tools (Slack, Google Suite, Salesforce, Squarespace, Canva, Campaign Monitor, etc).
  • Strong interpersonal and cross-cultural communication skills.
  • A creative problem solver with a commitment to working collaboratively to deliver the best outcome.
  • An innovative self-starter with a tolerance for ambiguity, rapid change, and collaborating across multiple time zones.

Desirable

  • Lived experience of forced migration and/or displacement.
  • Experience working in a fast-growing, startup-style organisation.
  • Existing media networks
  • An interest in politics/policy-making and global refugee law.
  • Photography/videography/graphic design and/or video editing skills.
