Serenity House provides safe and appropriate immediate temporary supported accommodation, usually in a crisis or emergency situation, for women and children who are transitioning from homelessness or risk of homelessness to being housed.
In this role you will support single women and families, with a focus on Indigenous community members, to achieve housing stability, experience improved social inclusion and be equipped to live successfully in the community. This support is achieved through case management activities and working effectively with other members of a multi-disciplinary team to provide a comprehensive client service within the values and mission of The Salvation Army.
Selection Criteria:
- An appreciation of and the ability and willingness to promote and support - the values and ethos of The Salvation Army.
- Tertiary or other qualifications within Community Services, Social Work or similar discipline, or extensive relevant experience with a minimum of Diploma qualifications
- Solid level of experience (minimum 2+ years) in the implementation of case management and systems for disadvantaged and/or complex needs clients.
- Experience working with people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds and religions.
- Experience working in collaboration with other organisations to develop and tailor programs to meet clients’ needs.
- Demonstrated ability to deal with unpredictable situations and behaviour, violence and problems associated with homelessness, substance abuse and psychiatric conditions.
- High level of understanding of issues faced by Indigenous people and the ability to engage people ‘at risk’ who have complex needs.
- Demonstrated high level of communication and interpersonal skills including negotiation, advocacy and the ability to effectively engage with clients and other service providers.
- Self-motivated and a strong work ethic.
- Ability to facilitate activities and programs.
- Ability to prioritise tasks and manage time effectively.
- Team player, flexible with a positive attitude.
- Current First Aid & CPR Certificate; Current Driver’s licence; Working with Children Check (blue card) or ability to obtain; and willing to undergo a National Police Check.
- Flexibility with hours at times to meet the operational requirements of the role, including being part of an on-call roster.
