The Salvation Army’s Adult Services Network is seeking to recruit a suitably qualified and experienced AOD Practitioner to join the team of the Homelessness Alcohol & Other Drugs (HAOD) program. Based at Flagstaff Accommodation and The Open Door, North Melbourne, this position works closely with other program staff, engaging the facilities’ residents experiencing AOD-related issues:

  • Providing strengths-based, client-centred support to address AOD issues;
  • Engaging residents in safer using strategies, including operation of a secondary NSP;
  • Promoting drug treatment options and assistance to engage with treatment services.

The Position

The HAOD program employs creative and flexible engagement approaches derived from Harm Reduction and Community Development to provide opportunities for facility residents to engage in AOD support. These include regular drop-in sessions, therapeutic and educational group work, and individual support sessions. AOD Practitioners also provide support to access maintain drug treatment pathways, as well as referral strategies to match individuals with services addressing co-occurring and often complex life issues and situations. These are central elements of Care & Recovery Coordination, a recognised short-term service type which the service provides.

Successful applicants will have a current, valid Victorian driver’s licence. A Working with Children Check is also a requirement.

Remuneration

Pay range: $72,527 to $76,064 - as determined within the Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Industry Award 2010 and the National Employment Standards, Social Stream Level 5, pay point to be determined on experience.

  • Fixed term contract until 30 June 2019, with probable funding extension.
  • Full-time (38 hours/week) – operating Monday to Friday.

Alcohol & Other Drugs

  • Demonstrates knowledge of AOD sector including role, context, principles, philosophies, policies, regulations and legislation
  • Understands and applies AOD models, approaches and theories in accordance with the Territorial AOD Strategy
  • Understands and applies a wide range of evidence-based engagement & harm reduction interventions
  • Demonstrates clinical skills of intervention such as history taking, case formulation, intervention planning, delivery and evaluation
  • Identifies and uses appropriate strategies to deal with challenging or high risk situations, including knowing when to deescalate and when to seek assistance
  • Ability to work effectively with people who exhibit multiple and complex needs, including dual diagnosis

  • Works within program- and externally-set deadlines as directed

Service Delivery

  • Focuses on best practice outcomes for service users
