About the Role

The Salvation Army Independent School in Lawnton, QLD offers an alternative education program and opportunities for students aged 14-18 years whose needs are not met by mainstream schools or education services.

We are seeking a creative and inspiring teacher that has experience in teaching senior curriculum and Vocational Education and Training. A teacher who can differentiate the curriculum to meet the individual needs of students.

We work to support our students, to reach their full potential. All our practices are guided by our model of care, ensuring that our students feel supported and can engage in learning.

You will have

  • Current full registration with the Queensland College of Teachers
  • TAE 40116 Certificate IV in Assessment and Training to deliver Nationally Accredited Vocational Certificates is advantageous.
  • Experience in teaching in special assistance schools
  • A national police record check - as part of the recruitment process

This is a permanent full-time position based in Lawnton, QLD. Salary and conditions are in accordance with the Education Services Teacher Level 5 Award.

Teacher -Focus on Literacy and Numeracy

  • Learning areas: Maths, English, Science, Technology, History and Social Sciences, Arts and Health and Physical Education.
  • Adaptability to different styles of learning, teaching according to the educational needs, abilities, and achievement of the students.
  • Planning, preparing and delivering programs to all students in the class to facilitate learning.
  • Reflecting on best practice, both in delivery and assessment/feedback, to ensure continued improvement of the programs offered and student outcomes.
  • Incorporating trauma informed practices when working with young people.
  • Assessing, marking, recording, and reporting on the development, progress, attainment, and behaviour of the students.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leadership, mentoring, supervision, professional support and guidance for teachers, Education Staff and Volunteers within the school.
  • Effective development, delivery, and evaluation of the school's education program.
  • Develop and lead the implementation of the school's assessment and reporting policies.
  • Develop and implement the Individual Learning Plan (ILP) and Senior Education Training Plan (SET) of all students.
  • Collection of data and record keeping for Nationally Consistent Collection of Data (NCCD) and student achievement.
  • Planning, preparing and delivering lessons to all students in the class.
