Are you passionate about supporting your community?

We are seeking a casual Support Worker - Sobering Up Unit to join our team! You will provide a safe and caring environment in which intoxicated persons can sober up as an alternative to police custody in which a person's behaviour poses a risk to themselves or others in the community. Additionally, you will assist in the implementation of objectives and requirements of the Service Agreement.

Duties

  • Understand issues faced by and be able to work respectfully with all clients including those who are ATSI, CALD and LGBTIQ
  • Work professionally with team members, clients and other agencies
  • Competently assess clients on presentation to determine ability of the service to support the person
  • Competently assess clients on their AOD use for suitability/needing for monitoring and risks to be managed during monitoring
  • Use discretion and knowledge of the individual client's risk factors to respond to need
  • Cognizant of new policies and procedures and how they may manifest themselves in service delivery

We have vacant casual positions, based in New Town, TAS. This is an on-call position. Salary and conditions are in accordance with SCHADS Level 3 Award.

The ideal candidate will have

  • Cert IV in relevant industry
  • Understanding of the principles of harm minimisation specifically within the Sobering Up Unit context
  • Previous experience in AOD sector essential
  • Mental health and Mental Health first aid is advantageous
  • On the job training provided
  • Support Workers must be able to attend the Places of Safety Sobering Up Unit in New Town, Hobart Tasmania 7008 within 30 minutes of call out
  • A current and valid First Aid Certificate or ability/willingness to obtain
  • Current Tasmanian Driver's Licence
